We don’t know about you but whenever we hear Pharrell Williams’ Happy we just feel an incredible urge to clap along. Of course no one feels like a room without a roof all the time, but it doesn’t hurt to get a reminder now and then of how joy and happiness can make our lives better.
In 2003, Positive Thinking Day was established as a day to remember the positive things in life. This September, we celebrate with 6 happy slides and 6 expert tips to help you smile for the good things.
1. Positive thinking as a way of life
Positive thinking is about putting our lives into perspective. Seeing whatever happens to us not as a single bad occurrence but as part of our life’s journey, with all its good moments and challenging parts.
What most people don’t realize is that there aren’t simply optimists and pessimists. Positive thinkers work hard to develop the skills that allow them to always see the silver lining and make the best out of any situation they find themselves in.
These tools then give positive thinkers the ability to deal with anything and find meaning in every situation. In a way, positive thinking is a way to think yourself into a better quality of life.
2. Why you gotta be like that?
Before you go all Kimmy Schmidt on us, understand this: positive thinking is about approaching life’s challenges with a positive outlook. It’s not about avoiding or ignoring the bad things but rather developing a mental and emotional attitude that focuses on the bright side of life.
It’s hard not to pay attention to dark emotions like anger, sadness and pain when you’re constantly flooded by negative information, which is the reality for most of us. What we can do is refocus our attention to feelings like joy, gratitude, love and contentment.
Negativity is a choice, to some extent. The sooner you let it go the sooner you’ll start seeing even the worst things as an opportunity for growth and development.
3. Thank you
Cultivating a positive attitude towards life begins with feeling grateful. It is necessary to celebrate life, to say thanks for everything you have. Even for the challenges you have to face daily because they strengthen you and often take you where you never thought possible.
Show gratitude for the simple things in life. Take time every day to think about a little moment, a gesture, something you noticed that brought you happiness. Your day will suddenly appear infinitely brighter.
If you’ve ever tried mediation then you know how calming and energizing it can be. It’s amazing to see how much power we have to control our own minds and to help ourselves rejuvenate. Meditating helps free the body from stress and anxiety, wipe away the day's stress and bring us to inner peace.
Meditation has long been linked to emotional well-being. Some of it’s best benefits include Gaining a new perspective on stressful situations and building skills to manage your stress.
There are many ways to meditate. Anything from quietly humming ommmm in your living room after work or simply watching the sunset at the beach could work. take time to learn which method works best for you.
5. Get off the couch
Summer is almost over and you want to get as much sun and fun as you can. Getting some exercise always helps to control anxiety and to refocus your thoughts. Go for a run or a walk outside. A hike on the weekend is always nice. And we do mean outside, in nature, where you can actually get some sunlight and put life into perspective.
6. Get yourself some think positive slides
You know how a piece of clothing can completely change your mood? That’s because the clothes we wear affect how we feel. Studies have shown that our outfits can even change our behavior, personality, attitude and even how we interact with others.
Positive thinking and the clothes we wear are obviously linked. The thing to remember here is that your prior motive should be to dress to empower yourself, not others.
That’s what Freedom Moses slides are all about. We have slides for everyone to help you appreciate and own your unique style and to make sure you always have something that makes you feel comfortable, confident and happy.
